In file distribution channels where typing !list is acceptable, the bots may reply to it with an ad displaying a triggerAs an example, after typing !list, one might receive a PM like:-[CAT]Food-(XDCC) Packs:(12) Trigger:(/msg [CAT]Food xdcc list) Sends:(1/1)Queues:(33/100) Record:(76.3KB/s) Note:(Brought To You By ScientistsDiet)=iroffer=
You can also use mIRC addon scripts such as BeaST-XDCC Script or XDCC Browser. The script will list the XDCC packets that are listed in the channels you're in, and display them in an organized fashion. It also has a search option that will allow you to search for packets that aren't necessarily on the networks and channels you're currently on, although this feature seems broken due to lack of updates. A list of working search engines can be found at [1] and by doing a search on Google for \"XDCC search\".

Start a private message session by typing /msg or /query followed by the person's nick. Once the PM has started, it will appear in the listing just like channels do. You may speak as you normally would in a channel.
The /list command will list all of the channels which currently exist on an IRC network. For some networks, this can return a very large result set, but some clients will allow you to filter and sort the results.
Rules on an IRC server are enforced by the IRC Operators (IRCops). These are special operators on the irc server itself, and should not be confused by channel operators (who manage a channel). An IRCop can force disconnect people from the server (kill) as well as ban them (k-line/g-line). Some IRCops may also have the rights to manage modes on all channels without being in them (Services Admins). Those with full rights to the IRC network are referred to as Network Administrators (NetAdmin). The most efficient way to find a list of online IRCops is by using the command /who 0 o (zero and lower-case o) and ignoring the services bots.
Most new users of mIRC and IRC channels or undernet or dalnetor whatever, always make mistakes in their early attempts tobuild up a hoard of mp3 files. Many give up in disgust, becausethey fail to learn the procedures and the idiosyncracies of IRC.This is sad, because IRC is the best place to find mp3s.
When the text in the status window stops scrolling, click inthe text entry area at the bottom of the status window and type /list . Sometimes mIRC seeems to have abug that keeps all the channels from being listed if you don't dothis first. You can chose channels from the list when it pops up,or you can close the list window after it is finished displayingthe channel names, and then apply a filter.
Look for the fourth button from the left (in mIRC 8.2), theone that indicates that its function is to 'list channels'. Clickthat button, and a menu will pop up. Type mp3 in the 'match text'box, and click the 'Get List' button. In a second or a fewseconds, a new window will pop up and start listing channels. Both undernet and dalnet have a lot of mp3 channels, so it mighttake a minute or five for the list to be retrieved from theserver, depending on your connection speed and how busy theserver is.
When it appears that the server is done sending you thechannel names, use the right mouse button and right click in thechannel lsit window, and choose sort by->users. This will putthe rooms with the most users and file servers at the top of thelist. Double click (left mouse button) on about five of thelargest channels, those that have the most users. The channelwindows might open immediately, or it might take a few seconds ifthe server is very busy. Just remember to type the /list commandwhenver you go to a different network, for example going fromdalnet to efnet. It shouldn't be neccesary if you are justconnecting to a different server on the same network
OK, see the fourth button to click for the channels windowThe double lightning bolt underneath the File menu is the firstbutton. You should be to this point by now, although your screenmay look different, with different window placements and colors,etc... If you aren't, then go back and try it again. If all elsefails, try undernet if you were trying dalnet. Sometimes hackersattack a server or a network, sometimes lightning bolts fryequipment, etc... don't give up so easy, ptaak. Undernet anddalnet are big, and both have large numbers of mp3 channels.[FekLar] recently stumbled across irc.action-irc.net, which issmall but growing, and has a few decent mp3 channels. Efnet isabout medium sized, and has some decent mp3 channels. Try some ofthe other networks in mIRC's server list from time to time.
First, be forewarned that sometimes, because of server lag, itcan take as long as three to five minutes for the responses toshow up. Sometimes the server or the network is under a heavyload, with thousands of users. Sometimes there is an evilnetsplit. If you want to know what a netsplit is, go to #mirc andask. If your mp3 channels, or the biggest channels in the channellist, show only 15 or 30 users logged on, a netsplit is probablyoccurring, and you are on the wrong side of it. Unless a netsplitis in progress, there are always an average of 200 users andservers in the biggest mp3 channels. If this is the case, disconnect, and log on to a different server or network.Sometimes hackers attack the IRC servers. If all else fails, trya different network.
In [FekLar]'s wise and knowledgeable opinion, most mp3channels that offer FTP sites on IRC suck, and so do most of theFTP sites. Most are portals for per-click advertising pennies, and it might take you 30 minutes to find what you could havefound in the file server channels in 30 seconds, if you were everfind it on a FTP. FTP's might be OK for warez, but not for mp3s.
4. How can I get to be an IRCopThe easy answer to this question is that if you go around asking IRCops how you can get to be one, you will never be one. There is no list of potential IRCops or any kind of application. There are actually two ways to become an IRCop:- start your own Undernet server- get asked by an admin to be an IRCop on their serverStarting a server is not practical for many people, so the latter is the more common way. Here it becomes a bit tricky - an admin will only ask someone they trust to be an IRCop on their server, but if they think someone is cozying up to them just to get an O:line, they won't take that person seriously. You must be asked by a server admin, and asking an admin to make you an IRCop is a sure way of never becoming one.It is actually very difficult to become an IRCop on Undernet, but please don't think this means you can't help. #Userguide, #Help, #mIRC, #CService, and the many other help channels are always on the lookout for well-intentioned people who really want to help out without looking for a quick way to get an O:line and become an IRCop.Go to Top
6. What are the duties of IRCopsThe primary duty of an IRCop is to keep their server connected to Undernet. That means that after a netsplit, they try to figure out the best way to reconnect their server so the users will be least disrupted. Of course, they also try to prevent netsplits as best they can. Secondary duties are somewhat less important, and different IRCops have differing opinions of what those duties are. Generally, they may include: G:lining or /killing abusers (see G:line/K:line FAQ for details -com.undernet.org/documents/k-gline.txt), hanging out in help channels, and using Uworld, Uworld2, or EUworld to resolve channel problems. An IRCop's responsibility is to maintain the servers and the network. All other duties performed by an IRCop is done because that IRCop wants to help users and has the spare time to do it.Go to Top
9. Why won't most IRCops help warez or porn channelsPersonal ethics is the reason. Even though Undernet is an unmoderated medium and does not monitor or police the activities of its userbase (outside of those who are actively abusing resources), no IRCop is required to help any channel, especially a channel that goes against his or her principles. If they think warez trading undermines the software industry, or porn is degrading to women (or dogs, or whatever) the are certainly not under any obligation to give such channels ops or help of any kind. Mp3-trading channels usually fall under this category, as well. Also, remember there are laws that forbid trading copyrighted material, and everyone (even the mighty IRCops) has to obey the law. 10. Why don't IRCops do more to get rid of the warez and porn channelsIn view of the answer to question #9, many users feel that it is hypocritical of Undernet IRCops to not get rid of warez and porn channels. However, Undernet is an unmoderated, world-wide medium. Undernet does not censor what kind of channels can exist, but this lack of censorship should not be viewed as an endorsement. Also, there are many legal issues to consider. Undernet has servers in many countries, and each one has different laws on censorship, freedom of speech, and exports. It would be impossible for IRCops to know what is legal in each and every country that has servers, much less all the countries that have people using Undernet. If warez, porn, or any other types of channels are offensive to you, don't go there and ignore users who do, but please respect other people
