Note: Your iPhone and iPad automatically prompt you to use apps if you have them. However, you should ignore these prompts since you cannot use the Amazon or Kindle apps to purchase books.
Any time you use a website for an app you have, your iPhone or iPad will keep prompting you to use the app instead. If you accidentally navigate to the Amazon or Kindle app and try to purchase the book, you will see the message, \"This app does not support purchasing of this content. Digital books and comics purchased from Amazon are available to read in the Kindle app.\" If this happens, just navigate back to Safari. Also, if you have trouble downloading a book due to storage limits, you can also learn how to manage your iCloud storage.
I get tired of having to buy Kindle e-books by navigating to the Amazon site through Safari. If you want to find an easy way to buy Kindle books on your iPad or iPhone, there's a shortcut. To learn more iPhone tricks, sign up for our free Tip of the Day newsletter.
Apple collects a percentage of the money spent on digital purchases within the apps on its devices, but when you buy Kindle books on iPhone or iPad using Safari or another web browser, 100 percent of the money goes to Amazon. So the answer to the questions, why can't I buy books on Kindle app and why can't I buy Kindle books on Amazon app is: Amazon doesn't want to pay.
This battle over in-app purchase commissions is why you can't buy a Kindle book after the sample and why you can't buy a Kindle book in the Amazon app on iPhone or iPad. It's also why it's only possible to buy and download Kindle books on your iPhone or iPad or access the Kindle store from your iPhone using a web browser and not the app.
Now get to reading! If you plan to buy more Kindle books on your iPhone or iPad in the future, I highly recommend that you create a shortcut to the Amazon store from your iPhone or iPad Home screen. Formerly known as iBooks, the Apple Books app is the all-in-one book store and reading application for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. You can use it to read ebooks and listen to audiobooks, but before you can do that, you need to know how to find and download books in Apple Books.
We'll show you how to do exactly that below and explain everything from page-swiping behaviors, highlighting, and searching within books to navigating the Book Store to find your next favorite title. Read on for all the details.
You can access any book on your device by tapping the Library tab. You can also use the Reading Now tab to continue with the book you're currently reading, resume other books you've recently been reading, and recommendations for books based on what you've bought before.
Books that you've downloaded but haven't finished are automatically added to the Want to Read list. In addition, you can add other books to this collection. Here's how to do it when browsing the Book Store.
As you can see, the Apple Books app has some reasonably advanced functionality tucked away in various menus in iOS 16. So whether you've already picked up the best iPad for reading or want to make the most of every spare minute to read a bit more of the latest page-turner on your phone, the Apple Books app is a great choice.
The iPad had the larger screen and color, but the Kindle had a few bragging points too, including a longer battery life (up to about a month on the latest Kindle versus about 10 hours for the iPad), a lighter weight, and a larger selection of books in its online bookstore.
Thanks for the good info Tom. I'm rather annoyed with myself for assuming there would be an ibooks reader, of some sort, on my pc. I've recently paid for several ibooks, each in the $25-$40 range, and can now only read them on my iphone or wife's ipad. It's so disappointing that, when I travel, I am unable to access these books on my laptop.
Thanks it worked like a charm not sure if something changed recently but it worked for me. I left my IPad at work and this saved the day. But, lesson learned all future ebooks will come from other sources. THANKS
Most people ask this question because they want to read best-sellers and other paid-for books from the iBookstore. Your addon will NOT let them do that, it will only work for free books (or those from the very few publishers which do not use DRM).
I purchased an ibook and found photo's in my ibook didn't always show up correctly on my iphone 4. As much as i love the convenience of taking my iphone everwhere, I would not buy another ibook that can be purchased on paper + having not to squint at smaller display. So What ,ibook doesn't work on PC. Just do what I'm doing. Don't support this stuff .You bought it and don't like restriction's, Lesson learned .Apple needs to do oh so much better and as a 1 ibook purchaser, I'm sorry , won't be buying off you again as well as recommending friends do the same .Guess what. Same book purchased thorugh knidle that can be read on iphone app and PC. go figure
Unfortunateley it's not possible to read iBooks on a computer since they come with DRM on them. This DRM prevents the books from being opened on anything other than iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches with the iBooks application and your Apple ID. It seems unlikely that Apple would release such an application to read iBooks on a computer but so far they've made no announcements so it's still a possibility.
Actually it is highly surprising that Apple has not yet released iBooks for Mac laptops/desktops, since all the competing ereaders have done so, which makes buying books from them much more attractive. So I would think that a future release for OS X is very likely. A release for Windows seems a lot less so...
Not suprising- downright silly. I am not a big reader- but decided to buy a few books for my iPad. Couldn't find them in the iBookstore- but no problem with Amazon. At least I can access them on any decice that the Kindle reader can run on- how silly that Apple is hampering their own success. Why can't they at least allow it through iTunes- everything else goes through it. Just silly!
So to be clear they remove the 'store' option from all of their competitors but not their own app. And, unlike the competition, they are the only major ebook retailer to NOT have a Mac or PC option to read from. Sorry this is not 'silly' it is downright pathetic or short-sighted. Seems to serve their own needs and not address those of all their loyal customers.
Please note that under \"What are the requirements to use iBooks\", it states that iBooks uses the ePub format. Knowing this, I used a Firefox Add-In that reads ePub and read the free public domain stuff I downloaded (I guess \"purchased\" is the better word) on the iPhone 4. I found all of my iTunes files in my user folder, under My Music, iTunes, iTunes Media. I did a drag-n-drop onto a new tab I opened in Firefox and it opened perfectly fine and everything rendered properly...so I'm thinking that maybe Apple's DRM is supported by a freeware ePub reader
You are thinking wrong. When you have actually bought a book from the ibookstore with drm and read it with your Firefox or anything else on your Mac or PC, do come back here and tell us the name of the book.
guru is correct, minus the supposition around \"DRM' and \"purchased\" and \"free domain stuff\" which is not relevant ala correct or incorrect. the solution works and that is what the original post was requesting \"can i read my iBook downloads on my PC\"
I have no problems with reading most of the free books I have obtained from iBooks in Forefox, but anything I've paid jolly good money for - ie, a textbook costing $40 - I can't read or open on my PC in my browser.
That is what I see and that is the expected behavior. Someone who claims otherwise is either a) reading a free book, or b) reading books from one of the very few publishers who don't do DRM, like O'Reilly, or c) removing the DRM before trying to open the book.
Actually, with the Amazon Kindle books, you can use your Mac as well - you don't have to go to your \"Windows side.\" You just us the Kindle Cloud Reader. Sign-in at a secure SSL site: with a supported browser:
Access to books is an extremely important issue to those of us in the blindness community, and AccessWorld has devoted many articles over the years to the issue. This time, we take a look at the recently released NOOK app for the iOS platform from Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble is a bit late to the party when it comes to the accessibility of its e-book platforms, but it has definitely made an effort with the latest release, version 3.3, of the NOOK app. Although the NOOK tablet device is still inaccessible to people with vision loss, the accessibility improvements in this app are worth an investigation. This article provides a description of how to use the app with information included about the accessibility of the various features and functions of the app. 59ce067264
